We opened our doors because we believed Dodge County deserved better than the electronics aisle at a department store.
Alternative Audio & Video grew out of a straightforward frustration: there was nowhere around Mayville to actually listen to audio equipment before buying it. Online reviews and spec sheets only tell you so much. Sound is personal. What moves one person to tears bores another to sleep. The only way to know what works for you is to sit down and listen.
So we built a listening room on High Street and filled it with equipment we believe in. Not the most expensive gear on the market, not the cheapest either, but the stuff that delivers real, noticeable improvement for real-world budgets. We rotate brands and components regularly because we are always searching for the next piece that punches above its price tag.
Over the years, our work has expanded beyond the showroom. We install home theaters, wire whole-home audio systems, mount and calibrate TVs, and help vinyl collectors build turntable rigs that do justice to their record collections. But the core of what we do has not changed: we help people hear the difference, and then we make it happen in their homes.
We never push a product until you have heard it. Our listening room exists so you can compare gear side by side with your own music, at your own pace. If something does not impress you, we will say so before you do.
We would rather sell you a $300 pair of speakers that sound great in your room than a $3,000 pair that do not. Our recommendations are based on your space, your ears, and your budget, not on margin.
Every cable is run cleanly, every speaker is placed with intention, and every system is calibrated before we leave your home. We treat your house like our own and we are not finished until you are happy.
